6VA Special Monthly Compensation Rates
VA special monthly compensation (SMC) is a higher rate of compensation that is paid to Veterans as well as their spouses, surviving spouses, and parents with certain needs or disabilities.
SMC have different levels:
Levels L through O cover specific disabilities and situations
Level R may apply if you need daily help from another person for basic needs (like dressing, eating, and bathing).
Level S may apply if you can’t leave the house because of your service-connected disabilities.
It is important to understand that SMC ratings is an added compensation even if you have a 100% VA disability rating.

10Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) program
You can submit your VA claim the old fashion way , where you file on or after the day of your separation and wait the average claims process time, which is approximately 125 days or more from the receipt of your application and supporting materials.
Or you can do the the Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) program and wait, on average, no more than 30 to 45 days after separation and receipt of the DD-214.
To file under the BDD program you will have to submit your claim between 180 to 90 days of your separation date, after 90 days you will not be allowed to file under the BDD program.

12Filing a Claim
In general, no individual or organization may charge you a fee to help you file your initial application for benefits. But they may charge you for unusual expenses. It’s only after we’ve made a decision about your original claim that VA-accredited claims agents and attorneys may charge for their services. Make sure you ask up front what, if any, fees you’ll be charged. If you believe a claims agent or attorney charged a fee that’s too high, you can challenge it.
Alternatively you can file your own claim by creating an account in the VA website (https://www.va.gov/) and the ebenefits website (https://www.ebenefits.va.gov/ebenefits/homepage)
